SUMMARY:
Under the leadership of a Manager, Supervisor, or Lead but capable of working with limited or no supervision, Polymeric Technicians will complete a variety of tasks to ensure product compliance to established workmanship and quality standards. The primary responsibility of the polymeric technician is to apply conformal coating to complex electronic equipment to specified certifications, standards or other process output(s) against documented Spectrum specifications per product drawings, work instructions, procedures and customer documentation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for physically coating, staking, bonding, potting and masking products to meet customer specifications (specifically to NASA 8739.1, Workmanship Standard for Polymeric Application on Electronic Assemblies)
- Daily tasks include but are not limited to: Handle, mix and freeze epoxies, staking compounds and solvents. Apply staking compounds to stake electronic components. Apply conformal coating to complex electronic assemblies. Maintain lab cleanliness, inventory materials and order as required. Collect and record process data. Operate mixing, dispensing, measuring cleanliness testing and coating equipment. Monitor work area to ensure compliance with standards and specifications. Perform other duties assisting with polymerics as required by management. Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Support Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Ensures product is consistent with established build certifications and specifications and escalates quality issues as appropriate.
- Ensures highest possible product quality and adherence to the Spectrum quality system, AS and ISO and/or other standards.
- Besides coating products, may be required to support building/assembling products and provide services against documented Spectrum and customer specifications.
- Working knowledge of building products against product drawings / blueprints.
- Maintains proper use and care of tools and equipment.
- Sets up or runs current program files on automated equipment when required.
- Effectively communicates product status to floor leads, supervisor(s) and management.
- Show the ability to take the initiative on issues with little or no direction.
- Must comply to IPC ESD standards once trained and certified.
- Has a basic understanding and follows Spectrum Safety policies and procedures.
- Execute Engineering Work Requests as required by the engineering teams.
- Ensure there is a basic awareness of hazardous material(s) using (MSDS)Material Safety Data Sheets, (i.e. use of Beryllium).
- Ensure all discrepant material control procedures are followed. Also, recognize counterfeit components and how to avoid opportunities for use.
- Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve throughput, yields, and/or reduce costs.
POLYMERIC TECHNICIAN SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledgeable in MS Office (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel), knowledge of cybersecurity threats with software, IT applications, firmware, and internet use.
- Knowledge of: (but not limited to:) exhaust hoods, curing ovens, refrigeration requirements, Ultrasonic cleaners, spray guns, mixing pots.
- Knowledge that ESD smocks (Foreign Object Debris, (FOD) prevention) are required when working with product. Safety glasses are required in certain operation areas.

POLYMERIC TECHNICIAN EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent and/or 3-year manufacturing related experience preferred.
